Points of Interest in and Around Rockland, Maine 1894 Pencil Drawing

Regular price $50.00

This drawing requires close looking, but it is so worth it! It was done by a T.R. Rerce in 1894, using a pre-printed page upon which it seems one was meant to create drawings that could reproduced as prints, like patterns for a textile. Our fellow, though, decided to make tiny detailed drawings of places and happenings in and around Rockland, Maine, which are, to my sensibility, just brilliant! Here we have the local Merry Go Round, the Rockland High School, a view of the Penobscot River and the "Quarry Meadows" but also a game of football, "Austin fishing", "Dr Coombs in his Laboratory" (my personal favorite), a hot air balloon overhead, and "V.V. Thompson riding his bike at 4pm on May 7, 1892." And more. So so good.

11" x 7 3/4". An uneven left edge with a little crinkling just along that side and some smudges and age toning, but overall good condition with the drawings clear and dark and very readable. I would frame this one and hang it at eye level for frequent study!
