I've been looking at a fair number of cyanotypes lately, and have been especially loving ones that capture late 19th/very early 20th century domestic interiors in great detail. The large scale of this one makes it all the better to see each and every object in this crowded library or study, from the photos and figurines on the mantle to the pictures hanging on the walls to the wallpaper trim around the ceiling to the room beyond the tasseled pulled back curtain. Quite an intimate portrait, even in the absence of a person, or maybe all the more so because of it. In pencil on the back of is a notation of its location: 98 Hawthorne Avenue in Yorkers, NY.
