Early Victorian Watercolor and Pencil Sketches of Girls with Ringlets

Sale price $20.00 Regular price $40.00

I love the juxtaposition of these multiples profile views of young women, who I think quite charmed the artist as he sketched them nearly 200 years ago. I am not certain if this flurry of ringleted girls--the style of the day--include a few different takes on "Jane," who is named below another drawing in ink on the reverse side, or are all different, but a lovely small double-sided drawing I think they together make!

This drawing came from a  collection of sketches by Sir Edward Fitzgerald Campbell of England, 2nd Baronet (1822-82), grandson of Lord Edward FitzGerald, an Irish aristocrat and revolutionary, and son of Major-General Sir Guy Campbell.  The drawing is executed on 1836 J Whatman paper, and presumably date from around the 1840s when Fitzgerald was engaged in military service.

6 1/4" x 3 5/8" and in very good condition, with some darkening around the edges and some scattered light stains on the reverse.
