Painted Small Relief Carved Portrait of Boy with (Upside down) Teddy Bear

Regular price $65.00

I like this one for its folky strangeness, and for the fact that it was most definitely carved after a photograph, right down to the fact that this young boy holds his (wonderfully awkward) teddy bear upside down! I also like that this buttoned up boy looks as much like a grown man as he does a young child--to me appearing as if well on his way to become a suburban banker, or an accountant--though I always root for surprises, and he does look a but as if pondering the meaning of life!  With nicely done ears and hand especially, and a great blue painted background. 1940s I believe, and signed on the back: A.P Shaw, Greenhills Ohio, who I am certain was Albert Shaw, b. 1872, who would I believe have been in his 60s when her carved this, I would be willing to bet depicting his grandson!

5 5/16” t x 4 5/8” w x 5/8” d and in great shape, wired on the back for hanging.
