Painted Cardboard Candy Container Man, Presumed c. 1920s German

Sale price $20.00 Regular price $25.00

Though he's lost a fair amount of paint over the past 100 years or so, I really love little thing, which is an old cardboard candy container.  I've learned that these were quite a thing, some made of papier mache and some of hard pressed cardboard, which I believe this is, stapled along seams on the sides and top. At the bottom is a wooden stopper, which I don't think is original, but which works just fine for the purposes of plugging the bottom and standing him up. I actually think he may once have been a bunny, with ears long gone, but the terrific blue of his shirt and red painted scarf around his neck still holding on, and I find him pretty evocative just as he stands.

4 1/4" t x 1 5/8"w x 1 1/4" d. Lots of paint loss but structurally sound with staples holding tight.
