1857 The Boys Storybook by Frances Woodworth with Engraved Illustrations

Regular price $25.00

I have such a hard time resisting a lovely old book with not much short of 200 years on it, and this one is certainly that, copyrighted 1851, with this copy printed in 1857. Inside are a series of five stories that are certainly as good for girls as boys (though perhaps best as a study of mid 19th c. morality and education!), from “The Carpenter’s Boy” to “Crazy Ann” (driven to madness from the loss of her love to a shipwreck) to William Tell, to “The Microscope.” And at the end a morning hymn and two pages of instruction about never putting anything off for tomorrow that one can do right now! With lovely engravings.

96 pages. 7 full page wood engravings within borders & vignettes. 4 3/4” x 3 7/8” x 1/2”. Red cloth spine, yellow paper covered boards. Very good condition with cover wear but but holding together great and clean inside.
