I've seen some pretty fancy antique carved ivory and bone back scratchers, but this more crudely carved one suits me more, including for the fact that it seems likely a make do creation, with the wooden handle looking to have been repurposed from something else. The hand is very firmly inserted into to the post though, and has clearly been for a very long time, with what looks to be some very old, encrusted sting wrapped just below. To my eye a beautifully primitive, very satisfying object, and one which does the trick of scratching an itch very well indeed!
14 1/16" long x 1 1/8" wide; handle measures 7/16" in diameter. Very study, very good condition.
