Lot of 4 Mid 19th Century Penmanship Practice Notebooks

Regular price $90.00

Though it's a bit difficult to discern some of the handwriting (!), these four notebooks appear to have been the property of a couple of different members of the Heath family of Boston--I can clearly read John Heath on one, and I believe Adelbert on a couple of others, and the years 1849 and 1850 appear. I love the paperback covers on these, especially the "lessons in drawings" animals and geometric shapes.

Inside, they vary:

>>one (the one with animals on the cover) features about 12 full pages of lovely penmanship practice along with a few pages with just one line at the top;

>>one (with the geometric shapes) is very nicely done, with clear dark writing repeating (really beautiful fields) of single letters and words;

>>one features text that is fairly loose and pretty light, with some writing on top of writing that I really like;

>>one features very light, fine writing, with several pages toward the end of broad Spencerian flourishes.

Two of them (8 x 6 5/8") with 12 pages mostly filled front and back; two of them (8 1/4" x 6 3/4") with 18 pages. Overall good condition, with light wear to covers and a tear here and there.  Photos document each one, providing a small sample of each. Sold as a lot.
