Fine 19th Century Shaker Turned Handle Tapered Horsehair Brush

Regular price $68.00

I find the relationship between the form of the turned handle and the tapered bristles at the other end of this brush super satisfying, made all the better by the combination of dark wood and black bristles flecked with blonde ones. And the shape of the ferrule, with that perfect ring separating it from the beginning of the narrowest stretch of the handle, really gets me. Having bought and sold a fair number of brushes, I can say that one can deeply feel the skill and care of the maker on this one.

Late 19th century Shaker I am fairly certain. Wear to the finish and to the tip of the handle, some dryness to the wood, and one minor hairline crack on the ferrule. Bristles are full and tight. There is a hole near the end for hanging, which I would do straight away! 11 1/8" long; just the handle is 7 1/2" long. 2" diameter at ferrule.
