Wolf Walks Away, Vintage Folk Art Painting

Regular price $40.00

Not a great painting to be sure, but it makes me happy every time I look at, with what I take for a wolf (though perhaps just a big black dog) turning its back and walking away from what I assume are a couple of grazing goats. (If only Vladimir Putin would do the same!) It seems pretty clear that the L. Elgart who painted this had a pretty great time doing so, adding a few flying crows to the blue sky, plus a sunrise or sunset, and all sorts of impasto for the trees and bushes. And, it seems, they were so eager to frame it that they may have done so while it was still wet, leaving a line along the far right edge of the painting!

Framed: 11 5/8" x 9 5/8". Sight: 9 1/2" x 7 11/16. Papered over on the back and wired for hanging. There are some pencil marks just underneath the green on the tree at left.
