1863 Blanchard's Arithmetic Book with Hex Carved in Leather Cover

Regular price $25.00

There is no title page in this one, but an inscription tells us that a Robert Krighes (or similar) of Fort Edward (NY), who bought it December 8, 1865, about 6 months after the end of the civil war. You likely know by now if you are reading this how much I like old books as objects, and what I  love most about this one is that there is a hex sign deeply scratched into the leather cover, it looks like with a knife blade.  And then end papers filled with calculations, all over. The book itself features problems and diagrams of the same ilk as one finds in 19th century hand-written math notebooks, so this would make a nice volume to accompany a collection of those!

7 3/8" x 4 3/4", 360 pages. Lots of wear and a little loss to the spine, but sewn binding is holding well. Inside pages show toning and some staining but in fine shape to read. I will ship media mail unless otherwise requested.
