Roses, Carnations, Lilac and Butterfly Old Oil on Canvas Painting

Regular price $90.00

I sort of hate the term "shabby chic," but there is definitely a part of me that fantasizes about growing old in a little old farmhouse with white painted walls hung with paintings like this, and shelves stacked with mis-matched teacups, (who cares about the chips!), and wire egg baskets filled with freshly gathered eggs--altogether channeling the spirit of my great grandmother! But even if quite the opposite, I do think it's nice to have a painting or two like this around--nostagic-feeling, and romantic, but also, at least for me, a little melancholy. Anyway, I think this one-found at an old estate in Maine, c. 1900 I believe--is a good one, with the lovely butterfly perfectly balancing the composition!

22 7/8" x 14 1/2" x 7/8". Oil on canvas stretched over a wooden frame and nailed along the sides. "Shabby chic" condition, with wear around the edges, a little paint loss in the corners, and a few scratches, as detailed. I like how the darkening of the bottom edge, where it might once have been framed, simulates the edge of a table.
